Minister told of need for swift start to safety measures in Mayo village

Mayo TD Alan Dillon has welcomed progress on planning for additional safety measures and active travel plans for the Breaffy village.

Part 8 planning for the scheme has been adopted by members of Castlebar Municipal District.

The scheme will deliver the objectives of the proposed safety improvement measures on the N60 and integrate with wider plans for the provision of active travel facilities between Castlebar and Claremorris.

The plans will see a 4.25 km. walking and cycle track from the IDA Business and Technology Park on the N60 Breaffy Road roundabout, continuing through Kilkenny Cross and Breaffy Village, ending beyond Breaffy Post Office at the junction for Kilnageer L5760.

This plan will also see significant improvement at the drop-off and pick-up points at Breaffy National School.

Deputy Alan Dillon said: “I am delighted that the concerns of Breaffy residents have been listened to and that this project will now proceed to Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) for future funding consideration.

"I have written to the Minister for Transport, Eamonn Ryan outlining the urgency and importance of this project to the Breaffy community and the need for swift consideration of funding to enable his project to proceed through the public procurement process”.

“I want to thank the community of Breaffy who lobbied hard for changes in the village and to Mayo County Council for their continued support.”
