Mayo county town grieving death of popular personality

The death occurred peacefully at Mayo University Hospital of Mary Ruane (née Cunningham), 76 McHale Road, and formerly of Thomas Street, Castlebar.

Aged 84, Mary was well liked and respected by all those she came into contact with in her work at Davitt House and in Castlebar Garda Station, where she worked for over 40 years.

Her closest friends were her neighbours on McHale Road where she was loved by all.

Mary was very sociable and she loved nothing more than meeting and chatting with the crowds she met on match days in McHale Park.

She enjoyed the bingo sessions where she met friends old and new.

Mary took great pride in her garden but getting her hair done and heading out with members of her family for Sunday lunch was the highlight of her week.

She is sadly missed by her daughter Ann Mohan (Turlough) and sons John, Pat, Robert, Declan and Kevin, her adored grandchildren Lee, Emma, Leona, Finn, Luke, Nathan, Holly and Stefan, brothers Kevin (Breaffy) and Raymond (Castlebar), son-in-law Pat, daughters-in-law Della, Frances, Lorraine and Sandra, nephews, nieces, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the bereaved family on their loss.

Mary was predeceased by her husband Johnny, parents John and Mary, brothers Johnny Cunningham, Pa Cunningham and Sean Corley, and sisters Ann Roberts and Gay Benham.

Mary will repose in Kilcoyne's Funeral Home, Thomas Street, Castlebar on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral will arrive (via McHale Road) to the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, on Tuesday at 11.15 a.m. for Requiem Mass at 11.30 a.m.

Interment takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.

May her gentle soul rest in peace.
