Mayo community launch fundraiser for town hall upgrade

A WEST Mayo community has launched a fundraiser to save its town hall.

Louisburgh Community Futures is looking to raise €35,000 for a new roof, modernised facilities and an electric and heating upgrade of the centre in 2023.

A GoFundMe page is now live - Save Louisburgh's much-loved town hall - to raise funds to secure the hall's future.

The page explains how Louisburgh, home to just 434 people at the last count, welcomes many more from the surrounding countryside, from seasonal summer visitors, and lots of friends and family.

The town hall, on the main street, built in 1943, is 'in much need of some tender loving care'.

The hall is home to hundreds of community events and occasions each year, from school musicals to cake sales, choral performances, dancing, operettas, Foróige and the annual Christmas market.

It is 'a vital community hub for cherished get-togethers and is the heart and home of Louisburgh’s community spirit'.
