East Mayo town's sewerage issues raised with council

ISSUES with the sewerage system in Kiltimagh have been raised at a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting.

They affect the Cloonkeadagh area of the town.

At different stages sewage is discharging into a field behind a new social housing development at Cloonkeadagh and also behind the local secondary school, Councillor Neil Cruise explained.

The sewerage system is a mixed one - catering for sewage and storm water. At times of high rainfall there is a much increased volume of water hitting the treatment plant.

Local residents also have another issue, he said. When would the houses who have paid for a sewerage connection on that road be connected to the system?

Councillor Cruise also asked about a path at Cloonkeadagh, out from the town.

The sewerage situation is a major problem, said Councillor John Caulfield.

He was aware that Irish Water were working at the treatment plant and hopefully they would come up with a solution.

Councillor Michael Smyth asked that the matters be on the agenda for the next meeting and was told a report will be prepared.
