Improvements at lake pier in south Mayo high on agenda

IMPROVING access at Cahir Pier in Ballinrobe remains high on the agenda of local councillors.

They have committed some funding for the pier, which is a popular spot with swimmers.

Councillor Michael Burke has requested some costings for works, and he asked that they sort access for people with disabilities.

Speaking at a local municipal meeting, Councillor Damien Ryan agreed they have to try and improve facilities there for the season ahead.

Councillor Patsy O'Brien said he has committed €10,000 from GMA funding and the recommendation was to see what funding they can get from the overall budget to top it up.

Cahir Pier, he said, is an integral part of the area.
