Mayo members of top international group win at Brit Awards
THE punk-rock band Fontaines DC, with two Mayo members, scooped the title of top international group at the Brit Awards at the weekend.
The award is given by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), which represents record companies and artists in the UK.
Winners and nominees are determined by the Brit Awards voting academy, with over 1,000 members, which comprise record labels, publishers, managers, agents, media, and previous winners and nominees.
Fontaines DC drummer Tom Coll, from Crimlin, outside Castlebar, and Conor Deegan (bass guitar) from Castlebar are part of the five-member award-winning group.
Tom is son of Shelia and the late John Coll, a director of services with Mayo County Council, while Conor is son of Mark and Elizabeth Deegan.
The other members of the group are Grian Chatten (lead singer), who was born in England but grew up in Skerries, Conor Curley (guitar) from Emyvale in Co. Monaghan, and Carlos O’Connell (guitar), who grew up in Madrid.
