Great performances by Mayo Under 14 sides in VAI National Blitz

MAYO Volleyball Club entered three all-girls underage teams into last weekend's VAI National Mixed Volleyball Blitz held in Loughrea, Co. Galway.

The three sides MVC entered were in the Under 14, Under 13 and Under 11 age grades, with the Under 14s finishing second overall and the highest ranked all-girls side from 11 in the competition.

The Under 13 and Under 11 teams both performed very well too, taking some wins against strong opponents.

The Under 11 girls were the youngest side in the tournament so to clock up some victories against older girls and boys was a great achievement.

MVC coach Mikal O'Boyle said: “We are very proud of our young girls. Some of them had their first competitive action this weekend. Onwards and upwards for our young ladies!”

Meanwhile, the Mount St. Michael senior volleyball team got their championship campaign off to a flying start in the first round of the Secondary School Cup last week.

The Claremorris school played against hosts Scoil Muire, Strokestown, and Sacred Heart, Westport, beating both of their opponents in two sets.

This seniors (pictured below) will play round two in Ennis on March 6.
