Tender issued for west Mayo water scheme

THE tender for the main water supply from Westport to Kilsallagh has been issued.

The second part of the tender, which will cover the wider network, will issue in the coming weeks.

“Assuming all goes to plan, work should commence in early summer,” said Councillor Peter Flynn, “which is the news that people in Murrisk, Lecanvey, Kilsallagh and surrounding areas have been waiting on for a very long time.

“This is also very good news for Louisburgh and makes the connection to the Lough Mask scheme now a reality rather than a pipe dream.”

He added: “There is still a small window of opportunity for home owners in the area to be part of the roll-out later this year but the clock is well and truly ticking; don't delay in joining now as it will cost multiples of the cost when you have to apply to Irish Water at a later date.”

Councillor Flynn extended thanks to Murrisk water committee and the staff of Mayo County Council for the amazing work to date on the project and getting it to this significant date. He also noted the contribution of Deputy Michael Ring who delivered the key funding when needed most.
