Mayo county town needs action on its problematic water supply

by Auld Stock

COUNCILLOR Blackie Gavin has called for major improvements to Castlebar’s water supply.

The project will cost several million euro but if the county town is to expand and progress, a complete revamp of the current water supply is an absolute necessity.

As town plumber, Councillor Gavin has been called out to a number of serious breakdowns in Castlebar’s water supply system in recent months. Those breakdowns have caused great inconvenience to local householders and industries.

Since the current water supply was installed in Castlebar many years ago, the population of the county town has increased by several thousand people and a number of major industries have been established in the area.

Councillor Gavin’s appeal in relation to updating Castlebar’s water supply is timely and councillors from the area must make a concerted effort to ensure the town is provided with an improved water supply in the quickest possible time.
