She explained: “I have a real passion for supporting local business and hope to highlight their cause this year as president."

Melissa is also host of The Retail Tea Break podcast.

She brings together international industry experts, Irish retailers and product creators to decode myths, share knowledge and give her global audience an insight into the retail industry.

In a training capacity, Melissa delivers retail workshops to an international audience motivating customer facing teams to deliver sensational service through sales, standards and customer experience.

She currently lectures in Founder Selling at J.E. Cairnes School of Business & Economics, University of Galway.

She said: "It’s going to be a year of celebration at a national and local level highlighting our members, our community and our achievements, no matter how small.

"I have been a very active member of Network Ireland Mayo over the last few years. I’ve supported members as the social media officer, awards Co-ordinator and a member of the Network Ireland mentor panel.

"I thank the 2022 president Edel Kenny for her dedication, support, and her tireless hard work during the past year.

"I acknowledge the support of the 2022 committee and thank them for giving their time voluntarily. I am also very excited to be working with the new 2023 committee to continue to grow and develop the network”.

Elaine Kennedy, owner of Partry-based Hawthorn, has been confirmed as Vice President of Network Ireland Mayo for the year.

The 2022 Network Ireland Mayo committee is as follows: Edel Kenny (ex-officio), Ann Leonard (secretary), Laura McDonald (awards co-ordinator), Dani Teal (PRO), Lorraine Burnell (sponsorship officer), Edel Gavan (website officer) and member ambassadors Lorraine Hall, Paula McNicholas and Bea Rowland.

Melissa has chosen Cancer Fund for Children, Daisy Lodge, as her charity partner. Daisy Lodge has provided short breaks to families from the Republic of Ireland in Daisy Lodge, Co. Down, for over five years.

Their vision is to build and open a second therapeutic short break centre for children with cancer and their families in the Republic of Ireland so that no child has to face cancer alone.

Certain Network Ireland Mayo events throughout the year will have a fundraising element and all monies raised will be sent directly to the charity.

The branch is also looking forward to celebrating International Women's Day on March 8.
