Mayo Young Sports Stars: Breaffy team made a big impact on the national stage

The Connaught Telegraph Young Sports Stars Awards Male Team of the Year winners for 2022 are the Breaffy Rounders Under 15s.

Expectations were high when the team reached the Community Games finals last summer.

They had to overcome a monumental challenge from Longford's Clonbroney in the semi-final before eventually prevailing by the tightest of margins, nine runs to eight.

Munster champions Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare, provided the opposition in the final, and this was a contest that had everything. It stayed level until the very end, when Breaffy rallied to win by one score – 35 to 34.

The celebrations that ensued were wild, and the bonfires burned brightly when the boys reached home.

Breaffy squad: Ben Sloyan, Eoghan Murray, Mark Mulchrone, Michael McTigue, Nevan Lynch, Ronan Loftus, Adam Jennings, Rian Fallon, James Curran, Cillian Curley, Darragh Connor, Colm Clarke.

They will receive their awards at The Connaught Telegraph Mayo Young Sports Stars of the Year 2022 ceremony this Friday in Breaffy House Resort, Castlebar.
