€2.4m. in GLAS balance payments issuing to Mayo farmers

THE 2022 Green Low-Carbon Agri-Environmental Scheme (GLAS) balancing payments will commence this week.

The payments, which were welcomed by Deputy Michael Ring, come two months ahead of schedule.

Just over €2.4 million is being paid to farmers in Mayo.

Said Deputy Ring: “I am very pleased that these GLAS balancing payments are issuing ahead of schedule to Mayo farmers. The payments, which will commence from Friday, March 10, will issue to majority of GLAS participants.

“These payments are a vital cashflow boost to farmers at this time of year and are a recognition of their contribution to the significant environmental achievements in GLAS.”

Deputy Alan Dillon said some 3,683 eligible farmers in Mayo will begin to receive their payments.

He commented: “A key priority of government is to issue payments to farm families in a rapid manner. These payments are an important income boost to farmers at this time of year.”

Also welcoming the payments, Senator Lisa Chambers commented: “The GLAS scheme is a very important payment for farm families in order to support them in implementing measures to tackle climate change and preserve habitats and biodiversity on their farmland. Farmers across Ireland are doing their bit to protect the environment and I want to thank Minister McConalogue for his support of farm families in Mayo.”

Payments will continue to issue in outstanding cases on a regular basis.

Farmers with queries in relation to GLAS are asked to direct them by email to GLAS@agriculture.gov.ie.
