Mayo Young Sports Stars: Overcoming strong opponents and testing conditions to land a gold medal

Playing close to home at Westport Golf Club, which had the honour of hosting the Community Games Pitch & Putt Under 16 events last year, Owen Kelly from Turlough Towers overcame all opponents and some windy conditions to finish five under par, enough for him to claim the gold medal.

He recorded a hole in one in the process to really light up the competition.

It was a superb achievement by the young man representing Turlough Towers.

Great credit must go to Enda Lonergan from Westport who, along with a very good team of officials, coordinated the Mayo and national finals.

Owen, meanwhile, will collect his Connaught Telegraph Young Sports Stars award at the presentation ceremony in Breaffy House Resort tomorrow evening (Friday).
