Colour parties will lead five St. Patrick's Day parades in Mayo

MEMBERS of the 6th Battalion ‘D’ Company of the Reserve Defence Forces will step it out in style on St. Patrick’s Day when they will provide colour parties for five parades around the county.
At the 12.30 p.m. parade in Louisburgh the colour party will consist of Captain Liam Gavin, Quarter Master Barry Gaffney and Corporal Greg Dyar.
An hour later in Westport Captain Gavin and Corporal Dyar will be joined by Corporal Declan Moran to form the colour party.
At 2 p.m. in Castlebar Lieutenant Geraldine Muldowney, Sergeant Michael O’Malley and Sergeant Rowena Gillespie will lead the parade in the county town.
Later, at 3.30 p.m. in Newport, the colour party will consist of Lieutenant Jane Gilvarry, Quarter Master Barry Gaffney and Corporal Eddie Conran.
In the firth parade in Ballina, at 4.30 p.m., the colour party will consist of Corporal Mark Murphy, Corporal John Blehein and Sergeant Amanda Condon.
For Corporal Blehein this will be his final duty before retiring from the Army after 40 years service.
Meanwhile, Castlebar Concert Band will be performing at three parades next Friday - Castlebar (2 p.m.), Ballina (4.30 p.m.) and Crossmolina (7.30 p.m.).
