Tributes to retired Mayo senior civil servant on his passing

The death has taken place of Tom Prendergast, Upper Mace, Claremorris.

A former principal officer at the Department of Forestry and Marine at Davitt House, Castlebar, news of his passing has evoked an immense sense of loss and sorrow in the community, such was his popularity.

Predeceased by his parents Katie and Mick, Tom is mourned and sadly missed by his wife Anne, sons Michael, Paul and Thomas, daughter Fiona, son-in-law Paul (Biesty) daughter-in-law Geraldine (Hughes), grandchildren, sisters Mary (Regan) and Janet (Hunt), sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law; nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

A lifetime supporter of Mayo GAA, many warm tributes are being paid to the deceased on the condolences page of the death notices website, RIP.ie.

"Tommy was an absolute genius with a brilliant intellect and, yet, he was one of the lads who was at home in any company and with any generation," one stated.

Another said: "A true gentleman with the kindest of words always softly spoken to one and all."

A further tribute stated: "Tom was a very genuine, kind man with a lovely smile and he always had time to chat."

Tom will repose at Gilligan’s Funeral Home, Market Square, Claremorris (F12YP74) this evening (Wednesay) from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral cortége will arrive at the Church of the Our Lady, Barnacarroll (F12YV76) for Funeral Mass at 1p.m. on Thursday with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
