Westport AC break records at Connacht Indoor Championships

Freya Renton sets new provincial record

WESTPORT AC’S Freya Renton sent a new championship provincial record on February 26/27 in the Connacht Indoor Championships.

Everyone performed wonderfully against some very tough competition. Standards were extremely high but Westport performed incredibly well under the pressure.

Some highlights include: Under 13 high jump, Evie Madigan (4th); Under 14 800M, Freya Renton (1st in a new championship Connacht indoor record); Under 14 800M, Holly Renton (2nd); Under 14 shot put, Lelia Hennessy (1st); Under 18 1,500M, Padraig Corduff (2nd); Under 18 1,500M, Ethan Doherty (3rd); Under 19 800M, Ruairi Hollywood (3rd); Under 19 1,500M, Ruairi Hollywood (1st).

All are through to the All-Ireland finals in April where they will represent their club, county and province. To get this far is an incredible achievement in itself.

A special shout out to James Clarken too, who came third in the 1k walk on the Saturday.

Westport AC would like to thank those who were officiating, the coaches, parents and siblings who came to support. Also last but not least, Lisa Clarken and Angela Corduff were wonderful and Westport AC wouldn’t have gotten there without you. All athletes are wished the best of luck going forward.
