Mayo town all set for arrival of Prince Albert of Monaco today

PRINCE Albert of Monaco is arriving in Newport this morning to unveil a sculpture of his late mother, Princess Grace.

The unveiling of the sculpture, by Mark Rode, on Castlebar Street, at the entrance to Newport's landmark viaduct, is taking place around 12.30 p.m.

The event is open to the public and a large crowd is expected to welcome the royal visitor.

A reception will follow the unveiling in Hotel Newport, which is restricted due to palace security protocol.

People attending the public celebrations or passing through Newport are advised that Castlebar Street is closed to traffic from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for the unveiling, but pedestrians will be able to access the street.

Businesses on and around Castlebar Street are open as normal today.

Prince Albert has been heavily involved in the project, selecting the final image for the sculpture.
