Special St. Patrick's Day recognition for Mayo sport stars

Three Mayo sports stars are recognised and honoured today for their achievements in the boxing ring and on the football field.

Shannon Sweeney and Laura Moran of Westport Boxing Club are the Grand Marshals for the St. Patrick's Day parade in their home town while Burrishoole GAA ace Maria Cannon is the Grand Marshal for the Newport parade.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy said it is fantastic that their communities are extending such recognition to them.

"The three ladies are role models for the younger generations coming behind them and are fantastic ambassadors for Mayo and Ireland.

"I congratulate them and hope they have a memorable day."
