Mayo garda probe ongoing into fatal N17 collision

A Mayo garda investigation is ongoing into a road accident on the N17 near Kilkelly last August which claimed the life of a 90-year-old Donegal woman, a preliminary inquest hearing has been told.

The inquest at Swinford Courthouse into the death of Catherine Doherty, Railway View, Laghey, Co. Donegal, was adjourned by the Coroner for Mayo, Patrick O’Connor, pending the outcome of the investigation.

Evidence as to the medical cause of Mrs. Doherty’s death was given to the brief hearing by a consultant pathologist, Dr. Tamas Nemeth.

Coroner O’Connor put the matter back to December 18 for the hearing of further evidence.

Expressing sympathy with the deceased’s large family, the coroner noted that she is survived by 35 grandchildren and 52 great grandchildren and so will be greatly missed by many.

Sergeant Sean McHale, on behalf of An Garda Siochana, joined in the expressions of sympathy.
