Decision to move Mayo Immigration Office from central location questioned

A Mayo TD has questioned the decision to relocation the Mayo Immigration Office from Castlebar to Ballyhaunis.

Deputy Alan Dillon is calling on Chief Garda Superintendent Raymond McMahon to reverse the decision.

He explained there is inadequate public transport available to access appointments at Ballyhaunis Garda Station for those who have no mode of transport.

Speaking ahead of today's meeting of the Mayo Joint Policing Committee, Deputy Dillon said he is seeking an outline of the rationale behind the decision.

He said it did not make sense in view of the the huge influx of immigrants into Mayo and surrounding areas over the past 12 months with Westport and Castlebar the main hubs for migrant refugees.
