Mayo school captures national badminton title

There were celebrations in the county town this week following a national title at the FZ Forza Shuttletime All-Ireland Secondary School Finals in Gormanston, Co. Meath.

The Under 14 St. Gerald's College, Castlebar side, made up of Fiachra Donaldson, Morgan Nearly, Dylan Moran, Aaron Coogan and Gary Bolger won the All-Ireland Division 2 title last Wednesday.

They beat Blackwater Community School, Waterford, 4-2 in their first game followed by a 3-3 draw in the second game with Wallace HS, Lisburn.

They sealed the title with a superior games and points difference over Wallace HS after they beat Colaise Naomh Cormac, Kilcormac, 6-0 for the title.

Aaron Coogan, Morgan Neary, Dillon Moran and Fiachra Donaldson are members of Crimlin Badminton Club and Gary Bolgers is from Castlebar Badminton Club and the club and coaches are very proud of this achievement.
