€218,500 for five Mayo projects under Historic Structures Fund
FUNDING of €218,500 is being allocated to five projects in Mayo under the Historic Structures Fund (HSF), Deputy Michael Ring has confirmed.
The focus of the fund is on the conservation and enhancement of historic structures and buildings for the benefit of communities and the public.
The funding being allocated to Mayo is as follows.
Stream 1 awards
Belleek Castle, Garrankeel, Ballina, €35,000.
Harbour House outbuildings, Upper Quay, Westport, €37,500.
Holy Trinity Church, Aughaval, Newport Road, Westport, €44,000.
Vernacular awards
Barns at House, Moyhastin, Westport, €10,000.
Two-year projects funded under HSF 2022/deferred projects
Pier at Quay Street, Belmullet, €92,000.
Said Deputy Ring: “We are lucky in Mayo to have a unique built environment of extraordinary quality. Our historic buildings and structures are a vital part of our heritage.
“The funding being announced today will support the conservation and enhancement of these historic structures and buildings. It will also provide work for skilled craftspeople.
“While the primary responsibility to care for and maintain a protected structure rests with the owner, these funds enable important capital investment in our valuable built heritage. It will help the owners and custodians of historic structures to safeguard them for future generations.”
