Green light for new Tesco investment in Mayo

Planning permission has been granted to Tesco Ireland Ltd for proposed improvement works at their store in Ballina.

The news has been confirmed by Minister of State Dara Calleary.

The minister said: “Mayo County Council has granted conditional planning for the refurbishment of Tesco in Ballina.

"The works will include demolishing the two existing entrance lobbies, the construction of a new entrance lobby, external elevational changes with new glazing, cladding and part louver screen, replacement of signs, a new landscaped court yard, landscape upgrades to the pedestrian area, new service yard entrance gate, relocated alcohol sales area, provision of new customer toilets and internal layout changes.

“Furthermore, a condition of the planning permission includes provision of bring banks, e-charging points and bicycle stands, “ he said.

“These works will provide an improved work environment for the team at the Ballina store and an enhanced experience for customers in north Mayo.

"I will continue to work with Tesco and Mayo County Council to ensure the works now proceed in a timely manner.”
