Councillor sounds the right chord with Mayo musicians

A MAYO elected representative has sounded the perfect chord with musicians in the county.

Councillor Martin McLoughlin pitched a welcome note by helping to purchase a brand new baby grand piano for the Music West premises at Breaffy Road Business Park in Castlebar.

The beautiful white piano is a permanent feature in the main rehearsal room, named the Michael Basquille Hall, which is used by members of Mayo Concert Orchestra, Castlebar Concert Band, Mayo Youth Orchestra and the Mayo Male Voice Choir on a weekly basis.

Martin was very impressed when he sat down with pianist Karishmeh Crawford, who showcased the instrument's elegant, enhancing and captivating sound.

Said Councillor McLoughlin: "It's great to see what Music West has achieved since moving to their new home. I am delighted to have helped them in some way as I have long been an admirer of Castlebar Concert Band, or the Town Band as it's more widely known."

Music West has thanked Councillor McLoughlin for a gesture described as 'exceptional'.

The organisation has also thanked others who have made similarly generous donations since the new Music West HQ opened last May.

Music West has a lot of new and loyal support in the community and the contribution from a table quiz, by Castlebar Rotary Club, was very welcome while other local councillors continue to be very supportive.
