Mayo AC runners compete in Mullingar, Portlaoise, East Galway and...Barcelona!
MAYO AC athletes were out in numbers over the St. Patrick's holiday weekend as the 2023 road running season opened up.
In addition to the 11 competing with success in the 50th Tubbercurry St. Patrick’s Day 10k, Eamonn Joyce ran a fantastic half-marathon personal best (PB) in Mullingar in 1:18.55 to finish 24th overall.
He took over four minutes off his previous best over the same distance, also on the same course, a couple of years ago.
And in the Streets of Portlaoise 5k, also held on St Patrick’s Day, Sean Hynes ran 16:19, finishing 30th overall in a new PB, improving by over 20 seconds on his time in Carlow last December. Congratulations to Sean.
On the Sunday of the holiday weekend (March 19), Rob Holloway finished the Zurich Marató Barcelona in 4:12.52. He’s a new member of Mayo AC who has been attending the Tuesday evening weekly track sessions at Castlebar. Well done Rob.
Well done also to the four Mayo AC finishers at Skehana in the East Galway AC 8k: Ray Clarke (32:08, 13th overall), Tony O’Malley (32:26, 15th), Paula Donnellan (33:38, third woman) and Dee Corcoran (34:48).
The race winners in the East Galway 8k were Sean Mulryan (27:15) and Emma Rowe (32:15).
