Architect appointed for new school in west Mayo

NO planning application for a new school for Holy Trinity NS in Westport has come before Mayo County Council.

However, there is some good news on the project - an architect has been appointed.

Councillor Brendan Mulroy queried what is happening with progressing the new school on the site of the old Scoil Phadraig on Altamount Street at a local municipal district meeting.

He was told there is no plan before the council from the Department of Education or no pre-planning engagement.

The councillor felt it should have been 'done and dusted' by now but the department have not even come before them with a planning application.

Cathaoirleach Councillor Christy Hyland said the ETB have been appointed as directors of the project.

An architect has been appointed and is putting a design together for the school, he informed the meeting.
