Club and country debut for Mayo golfer Lauren Brady
SPIRITS were very high for the Westport Golf Club team's 7.30 a.m. group breakfast before the departure for a 30-minute drive to Portal Golf Club in Cheshire for day two of the Junior Clubs Home Nations finals.
The big highlight for everyone today was 11-year-old Lauren Brady making her club and country debut on the same day.
Thirteen-year-old Charlie Browne was best nett in the girls front 9, while Ellen Lonergan took best girls gross for the second day running on the back 9.
All the girls had their trials on very difficult greens, as did most players in the field, but their spirit, togetherness and banter remained lively. Such was their resilience was that they placed 10th for the front nine and 11th for the back nine.
The nine-strong Westport team now find themselves with another early start on day three tomorrow where they will face Scotland team Murcar Links, an all boys team, in the Flight C semi-finals, once again at Portal.
It will then either be a Flight final or bronze medal match on the final day, Thursday.
