Mayo TD to host coffee morning for children’s charity

A local politician will host an event this month to raise vital funds for a children’s charity.

Deputy Alan Dillon TD will host a coffee and information morning at his constituency office at New Antrim Street, Castlebar, on Friday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon to raise funds for Cancer Fund for Children, Daisy Lodge, which is currently in the process of building a new facility in Cong.

He said: “I am delighted to an event to raise funds for the new Daisy Lodge Centre in Cong.

"On the day we will have members of the board and management team of Cancer Fund for Children who will update everyone on the plans for Daisy Lodge in Cong, while enjoying a cup of tea or coffee.

‘As a father of two young boys, I can only imagine the trauma associated with having a cancer diagnosis in a young child.

"It is for this reason I believe a facility such as Daisy Lodge, which offers respite for children going through cancer treatment and their families, is extremely important in Ireland.

‘I am inviting everyone to pop into the coffee morning on Friday, April 21, where they can also speak to and get information on this state-of-the-art facility.”

Daisy Lodge have provided short breaks to families from the Republic of Ireland in Daisy Lodge, County Down for the past five years.

It is now their vision to build and open a second therapeutic short break centre for children with cancer and their families in Ireland so that no child has to face cancer alone.

The charity have secured land in Lisloughrey, Cong, which will uniquely offer more families the opportunity to spend quality time together in a safe and supportive environment.

At any one time, there is a waiting list of over 50 families waiting to visit Daisy Lodge in Newcastle.

When the second Daisy Lodge is opened in Cong, it will allow the charity to increase the number of children and parents in Ireland they support each year from 1,800 to 4,000.

The location in Cong was carefully selected and is along the shores of Lough Corrib and will promote peace and tranquillity.

The benefits of nature and the soothing therapeutic qualities that fresh air and scenery provides will enhance the experience of all who spend time there.
