Gardaí increase patrols in south Mayo town after two serious incidents

Gardaí in Mayo have confirmed they have increased police patrols, supported by members of the armed support unit, in the town of Ballinrobe following two serious incidents.

At around 4.30 p..m. yesterday, four men were involved in an assault on one another at a busy establishment in the town centre.

Golf clubs as well as other items were used as weapons during the course of the violent row which has shocked the community.

When two of the men left the premises and drove away, they were followed shortly afterwards by the two others in another car.

The two vehicles - a Volkswagen and a Nissan - were subsequently involved a traffic collision on The Neale Road in the town at around 5 p.m.

The emergency services were called to the scene and two of the men were transferred to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar for treatment to their injuries.

The two other casualties left the scene on foot.

An examination has taken place of the accident scene and investigations into the two incidents are ongoing.
