The junction off the old N5 leading to Islandeady village, where the community had asked to see their stone wall reinstated.

Resolution reached in N5 Mayo wall issue

AN ongoing issue about replacing a wall removed in Islandeady during the N5 works has been resolved.

The welcome news was delivered by Councillor Al McDonnell to the monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting.

The councillor has acted as a mediator between the community and the regional design office and director of services for a number of weeks now.

During construction of the N5 the wall, at the old N5 junction leading to the village, was removed by the contractor and it was the expectation of the local people that it would be restored as it was.

Following negotiations, an agreement is now in place, Councillor McDonnell informed his colleagues, which is acceptable to all parties.

Councillor McDonnell did not divulge details but said he was very pleased that matters have now been resolved, and he complimented everyone involved.
