Rosary for May at Marian Shrine in Mayo county town

THE rosary is being recited each evening at 7 o’clock at the Marian Shrine, McHale Road, Castlebar, close to the old bacon factory, during the month of May.

The shrine was erected in the Marian Year in the early 1950s.

The cost of building the shrine was raised by the workers in the bacon factory.

Organisers of the rosary are Castlebar Legion of Mary, headed by Joe Foy, whose family lived in McHale Road for many years.

All are welcome to come along and join in the recitlng of the Rosary.

Oliver Roach, McHale Road, and his family look after the maintenance of the shrine on a regular basis.

The shrine was blessed by Fr. William Nohilly, Castlebar, parish priest at the time, a native of Tuam, Co. Galway.

There was a large crowd in attendance at the ceremony and a number of prayers were recited by residents of McHale Road.
