First exercise at new helipad on Mayo island

INISHTURK'S new helipad is now operational.

A project site survey and inspection have been completed by the Irish Coast Guard and the facility is now available for use by the emergency service.

The first exercise by the Coast Guard was conducted on the new helipad yesterday (Monday) afternoon, with photos shared on the Inishturk Island Facebook page.

The completion of the project was welcomed by islanders, with the page noting: “We are truly delighted to finally have a safe new landing facility for these loyal and dedicated servants of Inishturk.”

The landing pad is located at Bellavaum, not far from Inishturk Community Centre, providing a vital resource for islanders and the Coast Guard for safe landings.

It replaces an old helipad which was located at the harbour.
