Public forum on west Mayo town's draft travel plan

WESTPORT Chamber has decided to schedule a public forum to discuss the relevant points of the draft travel plan for Westport due to be released for viewing in the coming week.

The decision to open a public forum for members and other businesses who wish to join the Chamber has been welcomed by the committee. This will be a platform to create a structured and constructive dialogue to agree the Chambers’ stance, based on the contents of the draft plan.

Graham Byrne, president of Westport Chamber, stated: “We are looking forward to receiving the draft plan and to discussing this with our members in the coming weeks. Westport Chamber represents the voice of our members, and we welcome other businesses who would like to join our organisation to attend on the night.

“We will take each relevant point and create a structured space to let members voice their opinions and create a response to the plan based on this.”

Geraldine Horkan, CEO of Westport Chamber, agreed with Graham: “We have an active relationship with Mayo County Council and look forward to bringing the voice of our members after the forum to provide constructive discussion and an appropriate response.

“We are all excited about creating a strong plan for the future of Westport and its surroundings.

“We are in a fortunate position to have great industry, a unique retail and hospitality offering for both locals and tourism in this town.

“The Chamber is focussed on retaining the benefits that our members bring to the locality and the prosperity of these businesses in light of this draft plan, which will hopefully further enhance the area to build on what is there.

“Our members provide close to 3,000 jobs in the locality, which has had a very positive impact on the area for many years.”

The date and location of the public forum will be confirmed once the draft plan has been released.
