Peter Canavan tips Galway to overcome Mayo should both sides get to the final

Padraig Joyce’s side received a ringing endorsement from the former Tyrone footballer turned pundit as he stated Galway would have the edge should they meet Mayo in an All-Connacht showcase.

Peter Canavan, former player of the year and Celtic cross holder has nailed his colours to the mast stating, "I'm not convinced yet. If Mayo were to play Galway in an All-Ireland final, I think Galway would win it."

The RTÉ analyst doesn't have faith in Mayo to repeat their heroic performance from the weekend which saw them dismantle Kerry should they meet the Tribesmen in Croke Park for the All-Ireland final.

A lot of football is yet to be played but after the first week of games, it has been Mayo and Galway who have impressed, beating last year's winners Kerry and 2021 champions Tyrone respectively.

If the dream clash does come to pass and McStay guides this Mayo side to an All-Ireland final in July, intrigue would be at a fever pitch if the opponents were bitter rivals and near neighbours Galway.

Mayo are set to face Louth on Sunday, June 4 in MacHale Park, while Galway travel to Mullingar to take on Westmeath on June 3.
