James Costello, head coach with JC Coaching Football Academy.

New football academy coming to east Mayo this summer

A NEW summer football academy is coming to east Mayo.

It is taking place at Kiltimagh Knock United's grounds at Cloonlee, Knock, and is operated by JC Coaching Football Academy.

The academy will run for eight weeks and is open to all children, not just KK club members.

While the academy is new, the coach behind JC Coaching is a familiar and respected figure in footballing circles in Mayo at underage and senior level.

James Costello is a UEFA B licence holder and is current Kiltimagh Knock United senior manager. Last season he steered newly promoted KK to a top four finish in the Super League and has enjoyed success with underage teams at his home club over the years.

James will be joined in running the camp by coaches who all hold FAI qualifications.

The football academy will run for eight weeks during June and July on Saturday mornings.

It will be open to both boys and girls and there will be two age groups, 11-13 years old and 14-16 years old.

The academy will run every Saturday from June 10 to July 29, and times and age groups are: 11-13 years old - 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m..; 14-16 years old - 11.45 a.m. to 1.15 p.m.

Coaches will work with the young footballers to develop their skills in the game, focusing on topics such as building up from the back, attacking in central areas, attacking in wide areas, defending from the front, defending in central areas, and defending in wide areas.

The cost is €100 per player (€10 discount for subsequent child), and that includes an academy jersey.
