Mayo arts centre's Forhalla group exhibition calls for submissions

THE Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar has announced that the community centric artist exhibition, Forhalla, opens for submissions on Thursday, June 22.

All Connaught-based artists working in painting, print or photography at any stage of their career - whether it be professional or hobbyist - are invited to submit works for consideration.

Originally developed as a means of celebrating the chance to exhibit once again in relative normalcy, the Linenhall decided to make it a repeat event, by providing an ongoing platform to local artists.

The initial debut of this group show ran from December 2022 to January 2023 to huge admiration, under the working title Equilibrium. With its aptly named new title, Forhalla (Irish for ‘foyer’), the selected works will be exhibited in the Linenhall foyer through July, August and September 2023.

Forhalla’s submission process is in-person only, with hopeful artists requested to put forward their work at the Linenhall box office where staff will be on hand to assist. There is a fee of €5 per artwork submitted and a maximum of two artworks per artist will be accepted. Submission dates are Thursday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, June 23, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, June 24, from 11.30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Artworks must be submitted in person and ready to hang. For any related queries, please contact Mary at the Linenhall, info@thelinenhall.com. Submissions after the dates listed above will not be considered.

HARMONIA

To other forthcoming Linenhall events, retired teachers’ choir Harmonia will be gracing the Linenhall stage this evening (Wednesday, May 31), performing vocals from an impressive and diverse range of musical genres.

Musical director Finola Higgins is very well known as the talented musical director behind many highly acclaimed musical productions in the west of Ireland, as well as being an accomplished choir conductor.

This concert will also feature Irish music from Ceoltóiri an Gheata, Harmonia’s traditional music group, plus special guest artists.

SUMMER CAMPS

From Thursday, June 1, tickets will become available for the Linenhall’s summer camp selection 2023. Keep an eye on their social media platforms for exciting news about the upcoming line-up of summer camps - there’s something for everyone.

Places tend to be snapped up quickly so booking early is advised.
