The musical director of Castlebar Concert Band, Debbie Clarke.

Special invitation to Mayo's new residents for band’s church performance

Castlebar Concert Band is hosting its summer concert in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, tomorrow (Friday), June 2, commencing at 8 p.m.

It will be attended by a large group of the town's new residents from Ukraine and other nations who have become actively involved in a number of community organisations.

The local Tidy Towns has received a particularly significant boost to their volunteering ranks as a result and this extra help can be seen in the enhancement of the town centre with beautiful flower arrangements.

Under the musical direction of Debbie Clarke, the band will perform a selection of its new material, including 'This is Me' from The Greatest Showman and 'Gonna Fly Now', the theme from Rocky, which has been given new life by the Ladbrokes advertisement on our television screens.

It will also feature a segment on the band's recent treble award-winning success at the All-Ireland Brass and Concert Band Championships in Athlone with its performances of 'Bluebell March', 'Hallalujah' and 'The Marches of John Williams'.

In a special feature, accomplished pianist Gary Trickett will be joined on stage by the band's clarinet and flute players for a rendition of popular pieces.

Popular local musician Tomás Langan is also on the concert programme, his captivating singing voice certain to draw appreciation from the audience.

Everybody is welcome to attend the free event but donations are welcome to help cover the costs.

The concert will conclude around 9.30 p.m.
