Funding announced for two agri-food tourism projects in Mayo

FUNDING of over €31,000 has been announced for two local agri-food tourism projects in Mayo.

The Gourmet Greenway in Mulranny has been awarded €9,901.50, with the North Mayo Heritage Centre to receive €21,800 under the 2023 Rural Innovation and Development Fund through the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

Deputy Michael Ring, welcoming the allocations, said: “The government are anxious to continue to develop connections between local food and tourism offerings. Ireland’s agri-food sector is engrained in the fabric of Irish society and is one of the main drivers of our economy, especially in rural and coastal areas.

“This initiative offers groups the opportunity to develop their products and services, connect with the community and visitors and improve skills and best practice.”

Deputy Alan Dillon commented: “I am delighted to see both The Gourmet Greenway and North Mayo Heritage Centre receiving this funding.

“Agri food tourism in rural areas offers prospects for rural enterprises, encompassing farmers, producers, and artisans, to enhance their products and services, foster connections with the community and tourists, and refine their skills and best practices.”
