Admiral Brown's birthday celebrated in his Mayo home town

THE 246th anniversary of the birth of Admiral William Brown has been celebrated in Foxford.

William Brown was born in Foxford on June 22, 1777, and is celebrated in Argentina for being the founding father of the Argentine Navy.

Those links and the friendships that have been established over the years between Ireland and Argentina through the Admiral William Brown Society were renewed at the anniversary celebrations.

Argentinian Ambassador HE Ana Cachaza, Chief of Staff Nicolas Vidal and Lieutenant Callum McPhilips, presenting the Irish Navy, were among the guests.

Foxford Brass & Reed Band and the children from the local national school added greatly to the atmosphere as the community gathered to celebrate a native son and cement friendships.
