Road safety appeal to Mayo fans travelling to match

WITH a large number of Mayo people expected to travel to Dublin for this Sunday’s All-Ireland quarterfinal at Croke Park; the Mayo road safety officer is urging fans to drive with care and plan out their journey to and from Dublin.

With the number of fatalities on Mayo’s roads presently at double last year’s number, Gary Smyth has outlined a few simple reminders for all motorists to undertake before making the journey:

* Ensure your car is roadworthy - check you tyres, lights and wipers

* Wear your seatbelts

* Use of mobile phones is prohibited when driving

* Never drink/drug drive

* Respect all other road users

* Allow plenty of time for travelling, ensure you are rested and take appropriate breaks.
