Fine Gael selects three local election candidates in south Mayo
FINE Gael has selected its three candidates in the Claremorris area to contest the next local elections.
At the selection convention held in the McWilliam Park Hotel, the candidates selected were sitting councillors Michael Burke and Tom Connolly and new candidate Alma Gallagher.
Ms. Gallagher is a manager with social housing association Clár ICH and is particularly interested in social enterprise and rural development.
The packed convention, which was attended by Minister of State at the Department of Finance, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, heard from all candidates who spelled out their respective ideas to enhance their local areas.
The event was also addressed by outgoing councillor John Cribbin, who is retiring next year.
Councillor Cribbin was thanked for his dedicated service to his constituents and to his party during a career which spanned over 25 years.
The local and European elections are expected to take place in early June 2024 with the remaining selection conventions due to take place over the coming months.
