Mayo-based poet wins international award

Castlebar-based poet Isabela Basombrío Hoban has won an international poetry award in Madrid.

Isabela has won The New Athenaeum Online (The Nuevo Ateneo Online) literary award.

The award recognises the work of authors who have written an important work of great literary value and who strive to contribute to new forms of cultural diffusion to reach the reading public. The jury is composed of authors of recognised prestige.

Isabela was presented with the award at the Ediciones Vitruvio Poetry Festival on Friday after launching her latest bilingual book, Rain Love Death Poets (published by Ediciones Vitruvio).

Isabela is a bilingual poet, writing in both English and Spanish. She is originally from Peru and lives in Castlebar.

She acknowledges, with gratitude, the support of Mayo County Council arts section and Culture Ireland.

Her new book will be available at Castle Books, Castlebar, and online.
