Ban leylandii hedges along footpaths - Mayo councillor
BAN leylandii as hedging along footpaths.
That's the suggestion made by one Castlebar councillor.
The roots of the plant, which is very popular as a hedge, have come out on a footpath locally, lifting a manhole and resulting in a lady having a fall, Councillor Ger Deere explained.
“Leylandii should be banned as a hedge along footpaths,” he told a local area meeting.
It's no good for biodiversity, he explained, and its roots come out on paths.
