Rural west Mayo holiday hostel expansion plans
A HOLIDAY hostel in west Mayo is looking to improve its offering to guests.
Planning permission has been sought for an extension to the Killeen Beach Lodge located at Aillemore, Killeen, Louisburgh.
It includes a facilities area with reception, common room, games room and dining room, eight additional bedrooms, five glamping pods and play facilities.
Sixteen parking spaces, including two disabled bays and parking for two minibuses, are part of the proposal.
The proposed glamping pods will be sited within an existing tree planted area.
The existing hostel was constructed around 2000.
A submission to planners set out that the hostel and glamping pods will provide valuable accommodation for the Killeen area which has a multitude of outdoor amenities suitable for families, active people and people who want to explore this part of the Wild Atlantic Way.
The target market is families, small groups, couples and individuals, mainly active outdoor types, but also catering for elderly and immobile people.
The design concept is to be 'of its place' in a rural farming community.
