Mayo athlete sets new Irish Under 14 1,500m record

THE Irish Under 14 1,500m record has been broken by a Westport Athletic Club athlete.

Freya Renton's time also beat the Under 15, U16, U17, U18 and U19 girls' winning times.

Competing at the 123.ie National Juvenile Championships, held in difficult weather conditions in Tullamore, a fantastic run saw Freya winning the Under 14 girls 1,500m race in a new championship record of 4:29.07, with Holly Renton claiming bronze for the Westport club in 4:49.94.

Other wonderful performances included: Gracie Ní Mearain in the Under 14 long jump and 200m sprint; Holly Renton, silver, U14 800m; Freya Renton, U14 800m; Erin Walsh, U15 800m; Erica O'Driscoll, U16 3km; Maud O'Reilly, U16 triple jump; Padraig Corduff, U18 3k and 1,500m, and Ruairi Hollywood in the U19 3k and 1,500m.
