Tribute paid to late former Mayo councillor Geraldine Bourke
TRIBUTE has been paid to former Mayo councillor Geraldine Bourke who will be laid to rest this morning (Thursday).
She was recalled by her former colleague Councillor Al McDonnell, who served with her on Mayo County Council from 1994 to '99, at a Castlebar Municipal District meeting yesterday.
Geraldine was, he said, 'an excellent representative', who had succeeded her late husband Padraic.
He extended sympathy to her family on their loss.
All members associated themselves with the vote of sympathy to the former, much respected council member.
Geraldine (née O'Donnell), Coolcran, and formerly of Abbey Street in Ballina, died peacefully at Mayo University Hospital.
She was predeceased by her husband Padraic, son-in-law Lawrence and parents Mary Ellen and Walter.
She was beloved mother of Deirdre Buckley (Bonniconlon), Orla Bourke-Majía (Knockmore), Niamh Kelleher (Killcummin) and Tom (Belfast) and will also be sadly missed by her sister Patsy Flannery (Ballina), sons-in-law Sean and Danilo, daughter-in-law Yasmin, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Her funeral will arrive to St. Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina, this morning (Thursday) for 11.30 a.m. Requiem Mass, followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery.
