World record holders and champions to gather at golf club in Mayo

The Irish Speed Golf Open is set to take place at the renowned Castlebar Golf Club this month.

Taking place on Saturday and Sunday, August 12 and 13, this exhilarating event will bring together top speedgolf talent from around the globe, including world record holder and former European Tour player Liz McKinnon, from New Zealand, who remains unbeaten in women's speedgolf. Liz will face formidable competitors from England, Germany, Ireland and France in this year's fiercely competitive women's tournament.

Joining her on the green will be Luke Willett, the PGA pro and winner of the 2021 British Champs, known for being the first person to speedgolf all of the British Open venues.

Adding to the excitement is Gary Sobczak, affectionately known as Big Bill, who at 66 years of age will be hoping to replicate his success of last year where he was the inaugural winner of the Irish Speedgolf Seniors section, a crowd favourite and globe trotter hailing all the way from Indiana.

The Irish Speed Golf Open is a unique event open to all players who can complete a 5K run and achieve a golf score below 100. Participants will showcase their exceptional skills and athleticism, proving that speedgolf is a thrilling combination of speed and precision on the golf course.

“We are thrilled to host the Irish Speed Golf Open at Castlebar Golf Club,” said Rob Hogan, two time world champion and event organiser. “It's a fantastic opportunity for golf enthusiasts to witness the fusion of golfing prowess and fast-paced athleticism.”

Registration for the event is now open and can be completed at www.speedgolf.ie/category/event. Tee times are scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., promising an action-packed weekend of thrilling competitions and great sportsmanship.
