Brother of missing Mayo woman Sandra Collins speaks to The Missing podcast
ON December 4, 2000, Sandra Collins left her home in Killala to buy some sausages for tea. She never came back.
Five days later, her fleece was found on the pier in Killala. It later emerged that she was pregnant at the time of her disappearance, and her family believe the fleece was planted there by her murderer who is ‘still out there’.
Today (Monday), The Missing podcast hosted by Pandora Sykes will release an episode with Sandra’s brother Patrick to raise awareness of her missing person case and to try to find answers to the questions her family have been asking ever since that day.
Patrick discusses the ‘traumatic’ time when the person accused of Sandra’s murder was acquitted based on insufficient evidence in 2014.
The Collins family, he says, still has hope and they will never give up looking for Sandra.
Every year on December 4 the Collins family illuminate their home with Christmas lights and raise money for charity in memory of Sandra. Patrick talks about how ‘out of something so dark and so horrible’, a ‘bit of light has been shone out’.
Throughout the series, The Missing shines a light on different long-term missing person cases and asks listeners to help in the search for them.
