Mayo goalkeeper Luke McNicholas to sign for Hollywood owned football club Wrexham A.F.C.

League Two Wrexham are close to signing Belcarra native and current Sligo Rovers keeper for a reported fee of £100k, according to Dan McDonnell of the Irish Independent.

Wrexham A.F.C. is the third oldest team in professional football and the oldest in Wales.

Formerly a struggling non-league side, their fortunes changed in November 2020 when they were bought by Hollywood actors, Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool’ fame and Rob McElhenny, who wrote and starred in hit American sitcom ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.’

McNicholas is the current first-choice goalkeeper for 7th placed Sligo Rovers. He previously had loan spells with Cliftonville and Finn Harps after beginning his footballing career with Manulla F.C.

Former Manchester United shot-stopper Ben Foster is Wrexham’s current first-choice goalkeeper. While Ireland international James McClean recently signed for Wrexham.
