Laughter Yoga makes a joyous return to Mayo

Castlebar is abuzz with a vibrant revival of creative and joyful activities, and at the heart of this revival is the return of Laughter Yoga workshops led by Mary Ananda Shakti, the founder of Laughter Yoga Ireland.

Mary's personal journey embodies the transformative power of Laughter Yoga. As a seasoned life coach, counsellor, and holistic practitioner, she had a life weighed down by seriousness. Following a year of grief and life's demands, Mary embarked on a laughter yoga training course in Munich, Germany, on the anniversary of her mother's passing. Here, amidst laughter, she found healing and humour’s profound ability to release pent-up emotions.

Mary was the trailblazer who introduced Laughter Yoga to Ireland in 2003 after training under Dr. Madan Kataria. Her mission is simple, to "awaken more joy" in people's lives. Through laughter, she discovered the power of choosing one's mood and perspective in life.

The benefits of laughter as an exercise are well-documented, including stress reduction, immune system enhancement, and increased energy levels. Mary's laughter yoga classes incorporate meditative techniques, breathing exercises, movement, and partner activities to create an atmosphere of infectious joy.

Participants in Mary's recent Castlebar class found that laughter yoga encourages individuals to explore their interactions and emotions. It's a bridge between playfulness and sincerity, leaving participants feeling lighter and more joyful.

In a world often filled with seriousness, the return of Laughter Yoga to Castlebar is a reminder that joy is a choice. Join Mary Ananda Shakti on Wednesday, August 30 at 6.30 p.m. at Bridge Street Bar for an evening of laughter, healing, and rediscovering the lighter side of life. Embrace the transformative power of laughter in Castlebar once more.
